However, not long after the New 52 began, a new Justice League was officially sanctioned by the US Government and deployed as a potential countermeasure against the main Justice League this became the Justice League of America. With the start of the New 52, the history of all of these teams was wiped away and the only Justice League was called the “Justice League”. Throughout DC Comics history, there have been a number of teams going by the name “Justice League of America”. The team was conceived by writer Gardner Fox as a revival of the Justice Society of America, a similar team from DC Comics from the 1940s which had been pulled out of print due to a decline in sales.
